What’s sweeter than a fresh newborn session at home with new parents and a new fur sister? Honestly, I can’t think of a cuter way to start my day. I recently met up with our awesome 2016 couple Kathryn and Chris to document their new son with his lifestyle newborn photos in Arlington and I’m sharing some highlights with you all today.
Watching couples as they’ve adjusted to their roles as new parents is such an awesome thing to see and these two have taken to it beautifully. I know that in the future Mom, Dad and their son will love to look back on these images and be thankful they exist. Truth be told, I wish I had more photos of my parents holding me when I was a baby and it would be so cool to be able to see what my nursery had looked like. I know that some people are hesitant to have a photo session inside their home, and oftentimes people feel as though their house is too “small”, too “messy”, etc, but trust me, nothing could be further from the truth. I always tell clients that if they are concerned about tidiness in the images, focus only on the actual rooms you want to photograph in! Don’t overwhelm yourself with feeling like you have to clean the entire home just to have a photographer come by. I mean, you literally just created a human being! Everytime I tell this to clients, in my head I am replaying a line from the original show Roseanne (a total guilty pleasure of mine), where a new neighbor walks into Roseanne and Dan’s home and the house isn’t tidy and Roseanne says to her new neighbor, “Excuse the mess, but we live here.” Remember to give yourself grace and realize that no one’s life is as polished and perfect as it seems on social media. And never forget that there are a lot of perks to having a newborn session in your own home; not only do you get to stay comfortably at home with your new baby but you also receive images of your family captured in the house that you have lovingly created into a home. That sounds like a win to me!
